The End of AI Frontiers: Microsoft Research Legend John Langford Resigns, Blasts Microsoft AI’s “Scaling, Aggressively Not Research” Culture

John Langford, founder of Microsoft Research’s AI Frontiers group, has declared the team dead and left the company. After a September reorg into Microsoft AI, the ex-Inflection leadership’s “scaling, and aggressively not research” philosophy shattered any common ground, prompting a collective exit of the founding leadership.
