Altman Admits OpenAI Must Slow Down: Sora Killed, Atlas Closed, All-In on Codex Ahead of IPO

In a candid TIME interview, Sam Altman declared for the first time that OpenAI should slow down: “I think it is a good time to slow down.” The video tool Sora was killed just 103 days after launch, the Atlas browser was discontinued in under a year, and resources are pouring into the developer tool Codex — a sweeping strategic reset ahead of the 2027 IPO. Altman also admitted “people hate data centers,” yet still expects AGI before the end of 2026.
